Sweetie - From the Gutter to the Runway A True Dogs
Tale.
(Warner
Books)
This book is a true howl. Getting to know Sweeties
intimate story of transformation from trash to treasure puts
a whole new spin on the idea of animal rescue and adoption.
This is a Cinderella with extra legs and a hairy midriff
story. Its got it all....dirt & grit in the gutter,
escaping the stigma of a bitch for a mother, becoming a fashion
icon and living legend, and steaks from dawn to dusk. An easy
read with lots of twists (hair dos, I mean) and turns (of the
head for fashion photo sessions) taking Sweetie (my new idol)
from forgotten to fabulous! Youll get a taste for this
classic in the making from the following excerpt: Once
upon a time, long before I became a fashion icon...I was just
a hairy little mutt from the sticks. How did I triumph over
my sordid past I hear you ask? How did I soar from squalor to
superstardom? Mine is the rags to riches story of an underdog
with a terminal case of bad breath and a dream. My parents raised
me far from the glittering runways of Paris and Milan...within
the maximum security minimum hygiene confines of a rural junkyard...Although
I was trapped in a place where polyester was worn without irony,
my fashion instincts were sharp as a pleat. I made hats from
hubcaps and practiced my runway walk among the carcasses that
littered the yard...(One day) I packed my hubcap hats and beer-can
ball gown, bid adieu to the junkyard...and jumped the fence.
My journey from gutter to runway was about to begin. I weighed
in at a waiflike seven pounds. Mark and J.B. (fashion aficionados
who found me) assessed my ravishing little self and made an
instant decision. Lets adopt her as our hairy daughter.
Well call her Sweetie.! I was plucked off the ground
out of obscurity...and immediately handed an admit one
small, gorgeous (almost) mutt pass to the glittering world
of my dreams!! (Now youll just have to buy the book
to read the rest of this deliciously hot doggies-dream-come-true
tale.)

& Travel Tips
by Angus Westie
Dear
Friends;
Finding a canine friendly location shaped our holiday travels
(me and my two dads). Our choice was Orange Countys
latest and greatest - The St. Regis Resort & Spa on Monarch
Beach, in Dana Point, California. So we hit the open road
in our SUV, with a duffel bag packed with all my clothes,
my bed and all my favorite toys. (Actually, I would have packed
less if Id known an assortment of new toys and gifts
were waiting in the room for my arrival.) The St. Regis is
pure class I tell you, from the warm and welcoming greeting
we got from the super friendly staff and the valets who patted
me and admired my newly coiffeured coat, to the dog-loving
chief concierge, Patty Doidge (she arranged all my walks and
doggy sitters). Check in was a breeze!
On
to the room - a real home-away-from-home - with two bedrooms,
and a balcony with views of the golf course and pool, and I
got a welcome gift of two ceramic bowls, delicious biscuits,
bottled water, and new toys. Now thats service fit for
a dog! For dinner I selected a sumptuous chicken and rice dish
from the special doggie room service menuwhich my
dads asked to have delivered at 5pm sharp! (I highly recommend
the chef at the St. Regis.) After a lap or two of water and
half a biscuit (didnt want to ruin my appetite for dinner)
we did the tour, leisurely walking along scenic paths...and
the beach! It was my first time on sand; now I know what its
like to have sand in my fur and the grit of nature between my
pads. Later, special events director, Rebecca Jones, arranged
for me to have my photograph taken with Santa. (I am rather
photogenic, if I may say so myself). Then we visited the restaurant
- an outside table was awaiting our arrival. One evening I spent
in the company of a two year old boxer named Slim Shady who
sat under the next table. We compared notes on our visits and
had snacks and treats from our respective moms and dads. I give
this resort hotel 9 paws up out of 10!! (For reservations,

Travel
Tips!
Tell
your owner:
1. Always keep you on a leash (some people might not be as dog
friendly as others).
2. Not to leave you alone in the room. Get a dog sitter!
3. Always leave the do not disturb sign on the door
so strangers do not startle unsuspecting dogs and make them
bark.
4. Find out where the designated doggie toilet areas
are before its time to go.
5. Always clean up after doggies do their thing. Hotels will
provide plastic bags if pet owners run out.
6. If pets accidentally break something, always point it out
to the hotel because that way you will always be invited to
return without any problems.
